Dimlux Plant Temperature Camera

Plant temperature is more important than ambient temperature! When the camera is connected, the climate can be controlled based on the temperature of the plant. If the temperature of the plant gets too high, the Dimlux Maxi Controller will dim the lights to keep the stomata open. In the event of a water shortage (e.g. due to a faulty pump) the lights are also dimmed or switched off to prevent crop damage.

  • infrared heat detection camera
  • extremely precise environmental control
  • allows the Dimlux Maxi Controller to calculate VPD*
  • used by the professional horticulture industry
  • very easy to install – plugs right into the Dimlux Maxi Controller
  • 10m cable

*Note: see what Vapor Pressure Deficiency (VPD) is in the detailed description.

Dimlux Plant Temperature Camera
Dimlux Plant Temperature Camera

See how to calculate your plant's VPD: here *

The Dimlux Plant Temperature Camera is a fantastic accessory that precisely measures the infrared levels of your plant and feeds the information back to the Dimlux Maxi Controller . This information is then used with the room temperature and humidity readings to calculate and display the Vapor Pressure Deficit (VPD) level*the potential of the ambient air to pull moisture from the plant . It provides the gardener with the most accurate information about how much the plants will have to transpire (give off moisture through the leaves) to reach equilibrium with the surrounding atmosphere. A large pressure deficit means your plants will lose more water through their stomata. Small pressure deficits mean plants retain their water more easily (great for cuttings etc). The Dimlux Maxi Controller is able to adjust the output of your lighting according to the temperature difference between the plants and the surrounding atmosphere, ensuring that the VPD levels are always in the correct range.

VPD (VAPOR PRESSURE DEFICIT) VAPOR PRESSURE DEFICIT. The plant temperature camera, which is connected and integrated to the Dimlux Maxi Controller , measures the temperature of the plant and displays the results on the Dimlux Maxi Controller .

The question is: Why do we even need a plant temperature camera?
The reason is that it is crucial for the Dimlux Maxi Controller to understand the general condition or health of the plant. The temperature of a healthy plant should always be lower than the temperature of the environment in which the plant lives. Water and nutrients constantly pass through the plant, which keeps it at a lower temperature than the surrounding environment. If the temperature of the plant rises to the same temperature as the environment , then it is no longer in a healthy state and will begin to wilt and eventually die . Things that contribute to this unwanted condition or environment include:

  1. High intensity discharge lighting - HPS (Sodium) or MH (Metal Halide) lamps
  2. Lack of adequate aspiration or ventilation
  3. Incorrect water supply to the plant.
  • So with the help or intelligence of the Dimlux Maxi Controller , the lights it controls are dimmed until the plant temperature is lower than the ambient temperature and will remain so until the fault that causes the disproportion between the plant temperature and the ambient temperature is removed ( eg plumbing/electrical failure).
  • Now with the Dimlux plant temperature camera , temperature sensor and humidity sensor connected and integrated with the Dimlux Maxi Controller , the controller is programmed to analyze the ambient temperature and the temperature and humidity levels of the plant and calculate other vital measurement , which is described as "Vapor Pressure Deficit" or VPD . This measurement is a reading that best describes the level of support of the environment in which the plant lives .
  • This environment is critical for optimal growth and nutrient uptake, which revolves around how hot and humid the environment is. If the indoor environment is illuminated with HPS, MH or CDM lighting and the humidity is above 70 to 80% and the temperatures are above 35°C , then the ability of plants to photosynthesize and take in CO 2 and absorb nutrients decreases and therefore the ability of plants to grow and produce flowers and fruits also decreases .
  • So if the environment cannot be controlled or brought to normal conditions, then your plants ability to absorb nutrients and grow optimally will also be reduced, therefore reducing the light and heat of HPS, MH or CDM lighting is next a logical step in balancing parameters [heat and humidity] to maintain high photosynthetic reactions and more importantly to keep leaf stomata open .
  • By keeping the stomata open for gas exchange, which is the main force driving water and nutrients in the plant, more sugars and amino acids are formed in the flowers/fruits for optimal production. This level of control is only possible with the Dimlux Maxi Controller and yourDimlux lighting . In order to have a greater degree of flexibility in your indoor environment regarding your lighting, the right control gear is the key to consistently maximizing the quality and yield potential of your plants and every crop !
  • The idea of VPD and its application is new and exciting and perhaps confusing to some. The idea (once again) is that if it's too hot or too humid for your plants to function optimally, then why waste electricity on full power lights when the plants can't use the light when we can balance the heat and humidity , by reducing the lighting power and bringing the VPD reading to about 1 to 1.2 ?
  • By doing this, the plants will use the nutrients you feed them and thus grow and produce optimally. I repeat, this is only possible withDimlux lighting , the Dimlux Maxi Controller and the plant temperature camera , the temperature sensor and the Dimlux humidity sensor . Even at 70% illumination, the same yields were achieved, just based on the fact that the other parameters were balanced and the optimal VPD was achieved.
